About Us

The CFP® Exam is extremely challenging and thorough test preparation is essential for success. The Breakthrough Exam Prep question bank was developed by CFP® Professionals to provide candidates with the essential tools and test skills needed to pass the demanding six-hour exam.

Breakthrough Exam Prep was created by Paul Alex Austin & Madison Watson, both CFP® Professionals who help clients reach their financial and retirement goals. Our breakthrough to passing the exam was the result of using tutoring and questions like the ones in this offering to pass the exam. Since passing, we have been helping candidates every exam cycle to prepare and pass a difficult exam.

What sets us apart? We truly care about each and every certificant we work with and give people our time. We believe that the journey of passing the CFP®  Exam is more than just that - it's about the relationships you build along the way and what you learn about yourself in the process. We build professional relationships that span far beyond the finish line of passing the exam and are proud of the network we have grown.

The questions will help diagnose your problem areas so you can stay organized and face the exam with confidence. Whether you're attempting the exam for the first time or trying again after an unsuccessful attempt, you'll learn the critical skills needed to pass, with no detail left untouched. You'll find that the questions challenge your full knowledge of exam concepts so that you condition yourself to choose the best answer more often than the common "traps."

The Breakthrough Exam Prep question bank is a way to supplement your studies without having to spend $2,000+ to purchase a full review program and is an ideal prep solution for anyone who wants to pass the CFP®  Exam by trying something different.

We also offer 1-on-1 tutoring for those who would like additional support to develop a deeper connection with the material. "I used Kaplan and failed the exam in March 2023. Generally scoring in the 60 to 70 range in the qbank and 50-60 in on the fixed exams. I also put in solid hours but there is a big difference between Kaplan questions and the exam itself. Kaplan has a very rigid way of approaching material and also does not update their material for mistakes. I know you said you used Dalton but being that these two programs are very similar in their style and approach, I wouldn't be surprised if Dalton has a lot of these same issues. What I did was took a break between April and July and planned to sit for the November exam. I knew I needed a supplement to my Kaplan material and did not want to spend the money on a new review course, so I found a tutor, Paul Alexander Austin who is a CFP. He helped me nail down the topics I struggled with and, more importantly, helped me understand what the CFP is looking for and exactly how they will try to "trick" you. I did sessions once a week with Paul for September and October and did a few extra sessions before my exam on November 4th. I passed, and the experience of taking it now and taking it in March was night and day. The questions I went over with him were a lot harder than the Kaplan questions and I definitely got extra points this time around because of that. "We hear" it's all about the hours you put in" which is some sense is true, but what I found out from sessions with Paul is that its more about how diligent you are and how well you grasp and can apply what you are studying. Even if you only study for 30 minutes one day, that 30 minutes is fruitful and you nail down a concept, then that's better than 5 hours of chugging material that you may not really be grasping. I also noticed that by the time I was ready for the exam, I seldom got 60s on practice exams. I was scoring mostly in the 70s with a few 80s mixed in.

To pass this exam I needed to change things up, and for me, one-on-one interaction and being able to talk through questions and topics is what got me over the edge. What is it for you? Kaplan set my foundation, but I needed someone like Paul to tie it all together and get me over the edge."

I first sat for the exam in November of 2022. I have never studied for something as much as I have studied for the CFP Exam. I used Kaplan for my education and Danko for my review. I have used Kaplan for 2 other certifications and if I am being honest they are not my favorite when it comes to the education portion. I had heard great things about Danko and was all in on his strategy. I felt confident going into it and even during it. I was dumbfounded when I saw "failed" flash onto the screen. I was extremely defeated at the time, but giving up was not an option. Another CFP professional recommended @Paul Austin as a tutor and I contacted him immediately. We started working together in January with the intention for me to retake in March.

In hindsight I should have skipped that cycle. I felt the pressure of retaking as soon as possible and it showed in my second failed results. I was still sulking and burnt out from studying and should have taken a longer break. I talked to Paul right after and we switched up the game plan. I took exactly one week off and then hit the ground running.

My education component has all been self-paced. I have not had an instructor to help me learn through the difficult concepts that need extra explanation. Paul was able to help me work through questions and be able to definitively say why this answer is correct or why this one is not. He helped me to easily spot the one word that could make an answer wrong even if it seemed correct at first glance. He helped me buckle down and really focus on what I was struggling with. Having someone that I could work through questions with was the game changer I needed. He also helped me realize I was overthinking many of the questions and needed to let go and trust my gut. I knew the concepts, I had done all of the reading, I just needed to go through as many questions as I possibly could. I purchased Kaplan's QBank and went through every single question provided. I took two days off before the exam so I could mentally be all there for exam day. I finished early on both sections and "passed" finally popped up on the screen (I was down to the wire with both previous exams). I cannot thank Paul enough for all of his help. He truly helped me to get across the finish line. To all of the people that did not pass your first, second, or maybe even third try do not give up hope. Just because "failed" pops up on the screen it does not mean you have failed, failure is giving up on trying. There are many that get through the education and never sit for the exam. You should be proud you pushed through and sat for it. This exam is brutal and EVERYONE is different and has a different journey. It does not make you any less than if you did not pass on the first try.

If anyone has any questions I would love to chat with you. I am happy to also pass along Paul's information and discuss what we worked on. Congratulations to all who passed this go around! To those who did not, do not give up hope. You are capable and CAN pass!

Let's do this.
